First Weeks of School

I have finally settled into my new studio for the year. I decided to keep the decorations a lot more minimal and sophisticated this time around. I wanted my studio space to feel organized and put together without it being distracting.

Already finishing the second week of school and I'm already working on multiple projects and basically trying to get it together.

None of my professors are new, but I have two that will really give me a challenge this year. Which honestly, just motivates me to do my absolute best work. Since I'm starting to search for internships, I  want an impressive portfolio to go with my professional accreditation and my kick ass resume.

I have a very high chance of scoring an internship in New York City, so I am definitely excited!

I haven't really been able to "enjoy" school so far since all my free time lately has been helping my cousin plan her wedding which is quickly coming up. As maid of honor, I definitely have a lot on my plate, but it's all worth it for her.

Usually my days these past weeks have just consisted of school and gym, nothing else. But even so, I have to say I definitely missed the friends I was apart from this summer, it's truly nice to be reunited with my group.

I have to say for it being my fourth year of college, things feel different but in a good way. I'm a lot more open and carefree (in a good way) this year so it's been a lot easier to just meet new people where as all my other years of college I never even tried. Also, I've been able to grow closer to my existing friendships because of this.

It's definitely a promising semester. I have many exciting things coming up that I can't wait to share with you all.

Also my friend and I created a website called CurlsAndDumbbells definitely check it out if you have a chance! We're extremely proud of it and it's basically like our "baby."

In just the short time we have created it, it's growing fast and we are receiving support everyday.

Once again, if any of you have any questions about school or just need to vent, just shoot me a message. Even if its anonymous, I'm always here to help and listen!

I hope your first week of school has been great and I wish you all a fun and productive school year!

Remember, you are enough

Advice to College Freshmen

It's that time of year again..

Yes, I'm talking back to school.

You either hate it or love it.

All I'm excited for is to shop for new school supplies...

I am starting my fourth year of college and I figured with a couple of years of experience, I could pass down some knowledge I've learned throughout my time here.

Also, if you're interested in a college series just let me know through here or my tumblr!

Most of you seem to prefer to contact me through tumblr since I have the anonymous option.

By the way, the picture above was my daily view from my dorm my freshmen year.

1. Do not buy your books before class starts
  • I can not stress this enough. Unless your professor specifically emails your class to have your book for the first day, please wait. Many times you will not need a textbook and I have seen many people spend their money on books they never opened. If you're entering college, chances are that you'll mostly be taking general education classes. At my university, those are some of the biggest classes and usually the professor is lenient about no textbooks or he/she will allow you to use older versions which are usually cheaper. Also, do not buy textbooks from your university bookstore. Yes, you get them instantly, but they are so expensive! I have never had a professor not be understanding that I was waiting for my book to come in. My absolute favorite website to order books from is bigwords.com I love that they compare prices to a million websites so you know you're getting the best deal. Lastly, rent textbooks whenever you have the chance. It is so much cheaper! I only recommend buying books if you know you will use it for your professional career.

2. Keep every syllabus you get
  • The first day of your classes is usually known as "syllabus day" (unless you have a professor that actually starts teaching on the first day, don't be surprised). I refer to a professor's syllabus throughout the semester. It usually has all of your professor's contact information and office hours. It also has important dates like exams, no class, or final. Plus if you waste your professor's time asking them something that could be found in the syllabus, chances are that you may not get the friendliest response. Don't be that person. I like to store my syllabus in a protective sheet. I usually just have one binder for all my classes. All I do is separate my classes by tabs and the syllabus is the first thing you see in every section.

3. Check your schedule the night before
  • Fun fact, the first day of college for me I sat in the wrong biology class. Apparently they had moved the location of my class to another building. I ended up having to awkwardly walk out in the middle of class and then I missed my first biology class entirely. Luckily, the professor posted the syllabus online. Some classes will change and shift around right before the semester begins so just double check your schedule the night before, it will save you from any surprises.

4. Give yourself plenty of time in between classes your first few days
  • If you're university is anything like the size of mine, it's a pretty huge campus. Especially your first year, since it's unknown "territory" it seems bigger than it really is. I remember thinking how far my dorm is to the bookstore, now it seems like a short walk. As you familiarize yourself with campus, you'll begin to develop what the best paths are to take for wherever it is you're trying to get to. Your first few days, I strongly urge you to go to your class earlier than you normally would. Plus it's better to be there early to claim a good seat! You just want to avoid the stress of being lost and not being able to find your class and then having to walk in late. I will also warn you, if you're commuting to school, usually traffic is crazy in the beginning of the semester. Also, finding a parking spot can be a challenge, so be an early bird and avoid the stress of aimlessly driving around and waiting for someone to pull out.

5. Check the weather
  • I carry my umbrella at all times. It is an absolute must because I'll be honest, sometimes I forget to check the weather in the morning so if it unexpectedly starts to rain, I'm not completely caught by surprise. But because I know how my campus is, if it is suppose to rain heavily I like to wear my rain boots to school. It's more of a necessity actually because many parts of my school easily flood during a storm and let me tell you, it is no fun to walk around with shoes and socks soaking wet. You just want to make sure you're dressed for the weather. Even though it's ridiculously hot right now, many of your classes will be freezing cold so it doesn't hurt to pack a sweater! I always keep one in my studio.

6. Pack snacks and bring a water bottle
  • You may have a really nice schedule where you're only on campus a couple of hours or certain days of the week, but you may also be stuck with a schedule where it feels like you're on campus all day. If you're dorming on campus, you probably have a meal plan so it's fairly easy for you to eat at school. If you don't, spending money on food on campus can get expensive fast. I like to bring snacks with me from home to eat throughout the day. I'm on campus for long periods of time and I like to have food that will satisfy me and not mess up my diet. The freshmen 15 is a very real thing, beware. I also always cary my water bottle to keep me hydrated throughout my day. Luckily, I have my own studio space at school and that is where I am practically 24/7 so we have mini fridges and microwaves. That way I can just keep my food at school since all my classes at this point are at the same location. But, if you don't have that opportunity, pack some snacks and keep it in your school bag! Most professors are cool with you eating in class just avoid something smelly or loud. You also don't want to feast in class. I've seen people bring McDonald's meals to class and get called out on it.

I sincerely wish you all the best of luck for this new school year! If you think high school flew by, college goes by even faster so enjoy it as much as you can. Of course it can get insanely stressful, but it's also a lot of fun! You'll grow a lot these next years, allow room for change.

Inbox me any questions you may have! I'll be doing a post about the pros and cons of living on campus and commuting.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and remember,

you are enough.

July Conclusions...Changes

Happy Friday my lovely readers!

It is absolutely crazy how quickly July passed. I feel like my summer is almost over unfortunately. Even though I was in school for most of it, I still had a great summer and I made many amazing memories.

I started this month with my two best friends sleeping over at my apartment and I ended it the same way.

As much as I love to talk about fitness, college, traveling, recipes, etc.... I consider my blog to be my online diary at times.

Actually, it's a bit intimidating when I think about it that way. Imagine having your deepest thoughts published on the internet for anyone to see.

But

I'd like to think that my readers are genuinely interested in my perspective plus I consider you guys my online fam <3

Many things on my mind this month.

The number one question that is constantly popping in my head is, "who am I?"

Seriously, who am I and who do I want to be? Practically everyday I'm asking myself this question, but I think this is healthy. I believe in this stage of life, you should question yourself.

Really ask yourself why do you like the things you do, why do you call your friends your friends?

There is no right or wrong answer, but don't be afraid to question these things.

There is a beautiful quote that goes:

"A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there"

As individuals we should step out of what we find familiar and try new things. You'd be surprised on what you might like.

Most importantly, don't let anyone make you feel bad for wanting to grow as a person.

The picture above, when I see it, I see two completely different people.

I'm not even focusing on the aesthetics portion of it, but look at what growing in confidence can do.

The one on the left seems a little scared and a little sad where as the one on the right seems happier and more sure of herself.

Granted in one I'm studying for finals and in the other I was on the way to a club, but I remember liking both pictures when I took them. I'm wearing make up in both pictures as well.

The physical is of the least, I still wear my glasses from time to time. But I'm not hiding behind the glasses and baggy clothes anymore.

I'm happy on the changes i've made in my life.

Physically and mentally.

I'm not going to stop trying to develop myself as a person, every day.

By the way,

I've officially lost 20 lbs!

I'm feeling so accomplished with myself and my fitness journey. Excited to see where I'll be in a few months.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and remember,

you are enough.

Fitness Friday: Sneak Some Exercise

Hello and happy Friday everyone!

These past few months I have been searching for ways to squeeze in some exercise during my daily tasks. Honestly it is all about leading an active life and having a stronger body so why not?

Also, shout out to my model and awesome gym partner above!

These are just a couple of changes I've made:

1. Park far away
  • I work Monday-Friday on campus and since I go to the gym at night, I'm usually already in gym attire. There is a computer parking lot closer to my job, but instead I choose to park as far as I can forcing me to walk over a mile to and from work. Keep in mind I usually have multiple shifts in one day so I am easily walking 2 or 3 miles through out the day at least. On top of that I choose a route that has more slopes and inclines giving my quads a little work to do. I also bring my school bag everyday even if I don't need it, adding an 10 extra pounds to carry around. The only downside of this is that because I live in the south, the heat and humidity does not always make this walk enjoyable so I'm usually pretty sweaty......but then again just about everyone is.

2. Make stairs your best friend
  • If you know me, then you know I have quite an "obsession" with butts. I do not discriminate based of gender either. I appreciate a good booty when I see one. So naturally, I am busting my ass (literally) to get mine in great shape. Gone are the days of taking the elevator. One thing I have noticed is that I can actually go up four flights of stairs without losing my breathe. Months ago, I would take the same stairs and I would be panting by the end. I also try to take the stairs when I am carrying something such as stacks of textbooks or my schoolbag.

3. Talk and squat
  • Ask my roommates or my parents, I will be holding a conversation with someone and I will start randomly doing variations of squats and lunges. I might be in the kitchen waiting for something to come out of the microwave and instead of just waiting normally, I'm squatting. Whenever I have the chance, I do something. My roommate and I even keep our weights out in the open in case anyone wants to do a set of hammer curls, for example. Fun fact, whenever I pull an all nighter in the studio, if I find myself falling asleep, I will do a set of push ups or other exercises to wake myself up. It may sound a little excessive, but I don't have the bad habit of being a couch potato and sitting on my ass for hours like I use to.

4.  Bust a move
  • Alone? Have a dance party to yourself! I usually always have my headphones, I listen to music practically all day. Especially if I'm at work or school. So whenever I have the chance, I will break down dancing in the elevator, in the middle of an empty library, an empty office. You name it. I'll admit I have gotten carried away and I have been caught multiple times, but if you do, it is okay just brush it off! If I am home at the apartment I'll just play music on my laptop and I'll dance in my room or in the shower. Plus you can practice those dance moves before going out!

5. Carry you water bottle EVERYWHERE
  • Even if I am just watching TV, I have my water bottle by my side and I am constantly keeping myself hydrated. Plus, you're less likely to buy a soda or juice if you already have your water bottle with you. I honestly even put it in my purse and bring it into the movie theatre. Hey, I have no shame in my game.

Every little bit counts. These may seem silly and excessive, but I feel like these have only helped me with my fitness. Plus, if you're feeling down, bust a move and tell me you won't be smiling after.

Anyway, I wish you all a fun weekend, I'll be studying, but I may take a dance break Saturday night.

Remember, you are enough.

Final Exam Prep + Updates

Hello my lovely readers!

July is quickly coming to an end, I know, crazy right? That also means my summer class is ending and thus, my final exam is near. The 28th to be exact.

My final exam however is not just a normal test I take with a professor, it is an exam I take at a designated testing center in order to receive my first professional accreditation as LEED Green Associate. Granted I've been pretty stressed out about it because it is a pretty big deal plus I have a lot riding on it. So wish me luck!

If you're unfamiliar with what LEED is ( Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), it's a green building certification program. As a future interior designer, I strongly believe in the importance of sustainable designs and doing all we can to lessen the harmful effects we cause on Earth.

The summer class I've been taking is all about LEED and this exam so I have technically started studying for this since the beginning, but it is a lot of material to cover. The main way I have been studying is by taking practice tests that our professor had us purchase.

Earning this title would be a great opportunity because it would be a huge boost for my resume and I can put to practice what I have learned on future projects in my professional career.

I did want to talk about my birthday for a quick second. It was so. much. fun. I rented a karaoke room at a sushi and hibachi restaurant with my closest friends and family. Everyone enjoyed themselves, we sang all night. Honestly the best birthday I've ever had and I am so unbelievable grateful for the amazing people in my life. I couldn't have asked for a better night, these people support me and make me feel so loved.

I also wanted to make a quick shoutout to my twin brother Francisco. He is my absolute best friend and the most amazing guy I have ever met. We are six days apart so we celebrated his birthday a week after. We danced all night and we finally got to see what a casino was like. It was honestly our first time at a club. He holds a very special place in my heart..

Apart from work and school, July has brought out the extrovert in me. Which to be honest I never realized I had. Months ago if you asked me if like clubbing and going out to dance I would have said no. Now, I honestly love to go out and dance with my friends. Last week for example, I went out with my girlfriend and we had a ladies night at a latin club. We were both sober and we both had an amazing night dancing until 4. By the way, I realized I am actually an amazing dancer! My whole life I thought I was that Latina with stiff hips, but quite the contrary. I believe a big reason is because I have grown confidence and I am more comfortable in my own skin. Also, I just don't care of what others think anymore.

I still consider myself quite the introvert, but I have had a lot of fun getting to know the extrovert side of me. I had a serious conversation with my cousin Saturday night in a cute restaurant in New Orleans where she confessed to me that I was a very boring person. Honestly, she had a point, I really wasn't living. I'm not saying you have to go out clubbing every weekend to "live," but be open to new experiences and have fun especially at this age in life. Step out of your comfort zone. At least every once in a while. Not only have I met some amazing people this way, but I have made new and amazing memories with my loved ones.

I wish you all a lovely week and remember,

you are enough.

Thoughts Before Turning 21

I finally turn the big 21 this Friday and I'll admit, I have really been looking forward to this birthday for a long time now.

Normally I don't make a big deal about my birthday, I usually do something small with my family at home, but this year I decided to make things extra special.

In retrospect, reaching this "milestone" in life has made me very pensive these past few weeks and I have just been reflecting on my past lately. Here's what I have concluded so far:

1. Friends

  • I look at the closest people around me now. The ones I talk to every day and the ones that I don't hear from often, but I know they are there, and I just can't help but to feel extremely grateful for the type of people that have been put in my life to this point. Your friends play such an important role in these key years, shaping you into the person you will become. I have some of the most genuine and loving friends I could ever ask for and every day they inspire me and teach me to be better. They are real examples of what it means to be loyal. I know they have my back at any second, but I also know they will never belittle, mistreat, or even be rude to anyone that has hurt me. I love that.. It's definitely a lesson of growing up, you don't need to bring someone down just to bring someone else up. All in all, I am just so happy I get to celebrate Friday night with these amazing people. In general, I'm grateful for all the new faces in my life. I have met people recently that are so different from me and they are just amazing. I have changed a lot this year, physically-mentally, but they embrace my changes and encourage me to follow my goals.

2. Family

  • Family. What can I say? My family would go to hell and back for me in an instant. That's not to say we are perfect. Just like any family, we each have our own set of challenges, but in the end of the day I know without a doubt they are always there for me. I have parents that support my dreams and even push me to travel the world and follow my passions. Then there is my big brother. My only sibling. These past months I have felt closer to him than I had been in a while. We talk almost every day and even though he can be the biggest pain in my ass. I love him. I hate him, but I love him. I have to remind myself not to take anyone in my family for granted and to just appreciate all the moments I get to spend with them. As we grow up, we move away, we start our own lives, our own families and we don't get to see our own as often as before. As I start preparing for graduation soon, the possibility of me moving away is becoming very real, so I am trying to soak up all the family time I can.

3. Past

  • It's no secret that I went through a big break up this year. I have my fair share of posts on this subject. The reason I haven't stopped bringing it up is because surprisingly many of my readers are dealing with break ups of their own and I have been told that reading my posts has helped them. Which is honestly the only goal I had when writing about it. Right now, I can confidently say I have let go of all anger and bitterness I had. I don't want to carry those negative vibes into my new year. There is absolutely no point in holding on to grudges and resentments. He may not be a part of my life anymore, but I can appreciate the beautiful moments we had together. Aside from our problems, what we had was definitely special and I'll always be grateful for the times he was there for me. He will always be my first love and I think a part of me will always care for him. Maybe that's what it truly means to move on in a breakup. When you can look back and smile at the good memories, learn from the bad ones, and wish your ex nothing but happiness - regardless of what was done to you. The truth is, I've had to grow outside of that relationship in order to really grow as a person. And that is exactly what I'm doing now. Growing, learning, and finally loving myself the way I deserve to be.

I have to say, I am really interested in seeing what these next years bring. So much can change in just months. I think that's how your 20's are suppose to be - full of new experiences, lots of learning, growing, and lots of fun.

If any of  my readers are fellow cancers or July babies, I wish you a very happy birthday!

Remember, you are enough.

Fitness Journey Update + Advice

Fitness Friday!

Hello my beautiful readers, I thought I'd share with you guys an update on how I have been progressing in my fitness journey!

-

By the way, after an amazing vacation I am finally home! I am back to work (possibly getting a second job) and I am taking one summer class.

-

So far I am down around 15 pounds, I have lost 4 inches off my waist, and I have dropped a pant size! It is extremely rewarding to see the progress you make over time. I have taken various progress pictures of different parts of my body and it really is insane to see the transformation.

I am still not at my goal weight, but every single day I get closer and closer and I also get stronger. But there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I will get there. 2015 is the year I get fit.

So far my diet mainly consists of eating as raw and natural as possible and of course lots of water. I try to avoid processed foods and eating out. I have cut bread, pasta, and rice from my diet completely. I rarely eat pork and cheese as well.

In a typical day I eat oatmeal with fruits and flax seeds for breakfast, lunch usually consists of fruits and veggies, and dinner is either a salad or egg whites with turkey and veggies. I avoid eating dinner too late, but if I get hungry past 8, I usually will eat some greek yogurt or make some green tea.

As far as my workouts go, my goal is simple: break a sweat every day. You do not need to kill yourself at the gym all the time. I use my rest days for small activities such as taking my dogs out for a walk/light run or swimming with friends.

For the weekdays my workouts vary every day from weights, circuits, cardio, abdominals, cycling, and yoga. I tend to do combinations of two or three. And if the weather is nice, I'll go running the university lakes which is roughly 4 miles.

It's become a lifestyle for me. I don't have anyone telling me "go to the gym." I want to go work out, it's honestly been the best therapy for me. I feel happier and lighter because of it and since I'm eating right I don't feel as bloated and sluggish as before. Even my skin has cleared up a lot.

If any of you are thinking about getting into shape, my best advice is do it for yourself. You have to really be determined to work for it.

I think the hardest part is remaining optimistic. You won't always see a sudden decline of weight, heck you might not even see a difference in the mirror for weeks. But I promise you that's the most challenging part, not giving up even when you see no change. I promise you it will happen. Don't strive for perfection, but for persistence.

I don't feel like I am on a "diet" or that I am deprived. It's simply a lifestyle. I will not go back to eating like crap once I reach my target weight. I love my body, but I'm striving to be as healthy as I can be.

If any of you are interested in some of my recipes or even just more information on my workouts let me know! Either through blogger or tumblr!

I am so excited I get to share my fitness journey with you all!

Remember, you are enough.

Picking My Mind..Answering Your Questions

Hello!

I've been asked for updates on my tumblr on my personal life and I figured it was a perfect opportunity to do a new blog post.

To give a quick update on how I'm doing, I would have to say I am at probably at the best point in my life right now. I take comfort in knowing that it will only get better.

I am doing everything I love to do! I am traveling; I am progressing in my fitness journey and I am closer to reaching my goal weight. I am meeting new people. I have stepped out of my comfort zone. I have grown spiritually. I am almost 21 (woo). I am maid of honor and planning an amazing wedding for my sister. I am working towards getting my first professional title as a designer. Graduation is getting closer. And some exciting news in my family.

I can truly say I am the happiest I have ever been and I owe it all to God, my amazing family, and my wonderful friends.

I'm going to answer a couple of questions I have gotten on my tumblr these past months...

1. Why did you guys break up?
    • This seems to be the most popular question I get. To respect the privacy of the other party I won't really discuss this too much. All I can say is that things simply don't always work out. I know that's a broad explanation, but it's true. If you asked me 5 months ago what my life would be like in 5 years, I probably would have told you I would be engaged or married to this person. But that's just it, we aren't always in control of our life and our future. God is the one that calls the shots and I just have to trust His judgement. His plan is better than anything I could envision for myself. I have used this failed relationship as a learning experience and I have had plenty of time to reflect on my actions and see what areas I need to work on. Regardless of who is more to blame or what happened, I believe we each have our faults and our fair share of mistakes. Keep in mind I started dating this person when I was 14, I have changed tremendously since then. I grew up, my mentality and goals changed, and sometimes we simply don't grow well or at the same pace with the other person.
2. Are you dating anyone?
    • Nope! And I don't plan to for a while. Honestly I take a lot of pride in knowing that I got through this breakup without needing to get into another relationship to help me move on. I am enjoying all the perks of being single and putting myself first. Not having to compromise what I want for someone and not having relationship drama. I even sleep better at night! I am not putting a time limit on how long I am waiting to get into another relationship. I have taken a couple of steps into the dating world, slowly, but I am not forcing anything. If it feels right, I'll let it happen, but as said earlier it's all about God's timing and not mine. I am in absolutely no rush. Plus I am pretty sure that at 20 years old I have not met the person I am going to marry; I am barely starting adulthood. So to keep it simple: I am not opposed to dating someone right now but it's not something I am focused on right now.
3. What advice can you give on handling a break up and moving on?
    • Have a support system! Definitely a must and very important. Make sure it is with the right people. For me that was my family, my closest friends, and my faith. It does not have to be so many people, but personally I needed a big support system. With any break up, you are going to have your ups and downs. There will be many stages that you go through. IT IS OKAY. Seriously, if you need to cry, do it. If you feel angry, drink some wine and talk all the shit you want. If you need to vent for the 1948398543 time to your friends, go right ahead; that is what they are there for. It's something you have to take day by day, just remember you have to let go. Let. Go. You can not compare your progress to your ex's. Everyone has their own way of handling things (or not handling them at all) so just focus on yourself. There is no shame in taking time to move on as long as you do it the right way. I seriously thought it was going to take me a long time to move on, I gave this person 6 years, yet here I am months later happier than ever. The best part is that I feel like I was able to grieve and cope with the situation in a healthy manner.
4. Are you and your ex still friends?
    • No we are not and it is for the best. I do not hate this person, I hope he is doing well. I am genuinely cheering for him to succeed. I hope life gives him the opportunity to be the best that he can be. I feel like we did not end on the best of terms, but honestly I don't have anything left to say. I can sleep easy with a clear conscience because I know I apologized for what I have done wrong and I don't owe him anything more. I do not have any intentions on having him back in my life in the future and I don't mean that in a spiteful way, I just believe it is for the better; for his and my sake.

This experience has definitely given me thicker skin. I was so self conscious on what people thought about me and I have really learned to not care. It is absolutely impossible to please everyone. No matter what, you'll always be the bad guy in someone else's eyes, even if they don't know the situation. It was so important for me to be liked by everyone and now I am not worried about it. Especially if those people do not add any value to my life. I'll let people think what they want. At the end of the day I know who I am and I really love who I'm turning out to be.

If any of my readers are going through a break up, just remember it is not the end. In fact, it's only the beginning of a new chapter in your life and you have the power to make it an exciting one. There are hidden blessings in all experiences.

Most importantly, don't close up on the idea of love. That is actually something I am still working on. But I know that there is someone out there for me and that one day, I'll feel grateful for this experience because it lead me to him. It's all about His plan. But for now, I am enjoying this new life of mine.

Remember, you are enough.

End of Semester Updates, End of Junior Year Conclusions

I'm still here enjoying my vacation in the tri-state area and I thought I'd share with you guys my end of semester conclusion.

An update on the jewelry store I redesigned:
If you look at my earlier post, it's a huge difference, I even changed the name and logo. This little baby of mine got an A, and I was able to finish with an A in studio! My professor was definitely pleased with this project.

Along with it, I made another material board for it, (I'll add pictures of that later, it's still at school)

I also did a specification book for it that unfortunately my professor kept, but to this day it is the most realistic project I've done.

Another project I did was a set design for a play, I ended up building a whole stage at about
1/2" = 1' scale. Plus my props, lighting, and backdrop.

The end of this semester was one my most intense yet. I pulled 3 all nighters straight, got about 6 hours of sleep, then pulled 2 more back to back and I believe I was only able to recover one day which was a Saturday and I did not sleep again until Wednesday night. It was horrible what I did to my body.

And this wasn't even finals week yet...

BUT

that is fortunately all over now since it's summer and I ended with pretty good grades.

After three years of college my conclusions are:

  • Lack of sleep will make you gain weight faster than eating junk food, and combining both of these together is a recipe for disaster.
  • If you're running on lack of sleep and have a big day ahead of you, be careful with coffee. As good and amazing as it is, it has messed up my digestive system at the worst times, especially after multiple all nighters.
  • Wine, wine, wine...... Need I say more?
  • Stepping out of your comfort zone is a must
  • Become friends with people that have a different mentality than your own
  • Practice your dance moves on your own time before going out
  • Oatmeal and sandwiches were my survival
  • Graduation is right around the corner....it's ok to be kind of scared
  • Internships...yeah that's a thing and it's kind of a big deal
  • Update that resume/portfolio.
  • Take advantage of any career day your university provides.
  • Buy more business appropriate clothing

All in all, it was a crazy year full of ups and downs but definitely my most favorite year of college. I wish all of you guys luck if you're still wrapping up the semester! Stay strong, you're almost there!

Packing Tips

Hello! As May is coming to a close and many of you may be traveling for the summer, I thought I could share some traveling tips that I have picked up on, on my past couple of travels!

Packing

If you're like me, you might put off packing until the very last minute. It's just a tedious task to me. But I have come up with a couple of tricks that you may want to keep in mind.

1. Leave Space!

It's better that you under pack than over pack. Chances are that you will probably want to go shopping when you reach your destination. Whether it be for clothes, souvenirs, or gifts. You never know what treasures you'll end up finding and buying so you want to leave space to bring back those goodies!

Also bring items that you wouldn't mind parting with to save room as well. When I went to Honduras last year, I left behind a lot of clothing, shoes, and random miscellaneous items. Donate them!

2. Weigh you luggage!

If you're flying, please weigh your luggage before you get to the airport. Check with your airline what  is the maximum number of pounds that they allow. Trust me, you do not want to go over ---- it get's expensive fast! Also just make sure you do your research if you have to pay fees for any luggage. I know it depends a lot if your flight is either international or local. This just saves you any surprises when you get to the airport.

3. Become familiar with security regulations!

If you're bringing a carryon, be familiar with what you can or can't pack. Click here for all the info!
As stated earlier, it will just save you time and surprises the day you're traveling!

4. Seal EVERYTHING!

Okay, I may be exaggerating a tad, but I have definitely had to learn the hard way. The pressure in the air cabin can do some crazy things to your belongings. Also your luggage is thrown around a lot! Last year, my shampoo and conditioner had spilled E V E R Y W H E R E. It was annoying to clean and I had to wash most of my clothes when I got there. To avoid these situations just make sure you secure the tops with some painters tape! If you're carrying food items, make sure to double bag them. Especially chips, the pressure will pop open the bags.

These are just a couple of packing tips that I find most important! I'm having a lot of fun with this travel series; let me know if there's anything you'd like for me to talk about!

I wish you safe and fun travels if you have an upcoming trip! Enjoy every minute of it!

Pros & Cons of Solo Travel

Hello!

I am currently in NYC enjoying my summer vacation before the summer semester starts.

I came here by myself and I will be staying in the New York and New Jersey area. So some days I'll be in the city and other days I'll be more in the suburb "country" area.

Now, even though I traveled on my own, I am staying at my cousin's apartment and I will be staying at my aunt's house in Jersey. However, because my family works, I am essentially on my own!

Today was the second day I was able to explore the city by myself and basically just get lost in it.

After these two days I have started to compile a pros and cons list of traveling on your own.

Pros

1. You make all the decisions

You want to spend an hour in barnes and nobles just because? Or you want to eat street food instead of at a restaurant? You call all the shots in your schedule! There is no one there to rush you or comprimise what you want to see. It's pretty amazing to have the liberty to go wherever you want, whenever you want.

2. You blend in

Honestly, I've been asked for directions. I've even been asked twice if I work at the store I was shopping at. Not being with a group of people really makes blending in with locals a lot easier. I walk around with headphones in my ears since I have no one to be chatting with and I just power walk wherever I want. I'm not constantly checking a map or taking tour buses since my point is literally to get "lost". I'm riding the subways and I've learned proper etiquette before hand on the do's and don't's.

3. You feel in control

This may sound like my number one, but it is not. There's an amazing sensation about just deciding to go to an unknown place by yourself. You feel powerful. It's an experience like no other honestly. It has its risks but I have feel like you learn not only a lot about the place you're visiting, but about yourself as well.  The experience that comes with it as well is valuable and the memories I have been creating are so special to me. I also feel a lot more confident in myself like, "hey I can do this." So much so, that I'm already thinking about my next solo adventure. (Spain)

Cons

1. No one has your back

That sounds more harsh than reality. What I mean to say is that you have to constantly be checking your stuff and your surroundings. Be smart and be safe. There is no one there to watch your stuff if you need to go to the bathroom or to tell you to close your purse when you have it next to a stranger on the subway. And I'm using NYC as examples for these, but this goes for any place you visit. Especially to you ladies. Just be extra cautious. Do not "get lost in the city" at night. Do your research beforehand so you know what areas you may want to avoid. If you need help, it's always best to ask a cop or a worker rather than a random person. People for the most part really do help, especially with directions, but I try to avoid getting in that situation.

2. No one to share your experience with

I hesitate on putting this one up. Because in reality we share our travel experiences to friends or family. But what I mean to say is that you have no one to share that experience with in the moment. I think that depending on the type of person you are, this may or may not be that big of a deal. To be honest I felt it more the first day then I did the second. So it may also be just me getting adjusted to solo travel.

3. Only selfies

Because I really don't trust strangers I don't go up to random people and say "can you take a picture of me" so I'm stuck trying to take selfies with these gorgeous views and for the most part it just doesn't work. My arms are too short (I need a selfie stick). So I'm basically not in any of my pictures. Again I think this would be a big deal depending on the type of person you are. For me it's really not.

My honest opinion is that everyone should try solo traveling at least once in their life. You may hate it or you may love it! But sometimes we really only learn from experiences. It's a great way to just enrich the soul. Traveling to me is of the utmost importance. I'm a college student, but I try and save a little from every paycheck I get. And trust me at the end of the day that money adds up and I have no problem spending that on an airplane ticket rather than materialistic things. For this trip in particular, my parent's paid for my airfare as a 21st birthday gift. But because I've been saving, I have been able to get some shopping done here. You really can get some great deals on airplane tickets, just look ahead of time and do your research. Don't give up! Try a different location, date, or website.

You don't even need to fly to travel! I've heard buses are also the way to go. Fairly inexpensive. I might try that soon actually...

This world is just too beautiful. We need to try and see as much of it as we can.

To My Ladies

If any of my readers are dealing with a breakup: allow yourself to hurt. Do not let anyone belittle you or make you feel guilty for being sad.

Now, don't put your life on hold either, but if you need a moment - take it.

Hearts are fragile and take time to heal.

But here is some better news: women are absolutely powerful.

I promise you, we are strong creatures.

It's easy after a break up to want to give up on love, to get into another relationship, to have mindless hook ups, and to fill that emptiness that our significant other has left behind.

But all that is temporary because sooner or later you will be hit with reality.

There is much controversy over the saying "Love yourself before anyone can love you" I do believe it's possible to find someone that will love you and believe in yourself when you can't see it, but that does not always create the most stable foundation for a relationship.

Trust me, I have learned the hard way.

Loving yourself, being happy with yourself should be of utmost importance. It should be a decision we make every single day. Treating our bodies right, nourishing ourselves, and being aware of our health also contributes a lot to how we feel about ourselves.

A significant other is meant to compliment you NOT complete you.

Many people (including myself) feel as if they can not move on after a breakup. Not just that, we feel as though we can not even live.

Why?

Is it love?

The answer: No.

Most of the time it is because we idolized our significant so much that when they leave us, it is as if we can't live anymore because we got EVERYTHING from them.

Our strength, worth, love, confidence, etc...

Those are things that we should get from The One Above and from ourselves.

You can love someone without idolizing them.

And that is an important key to a relationship and unfortunately it is often not talked about.

Ladies do not be afraid!

You are enough. You are more than enough to create your happiness.

Focus on yourself, your ambitions, your health, and most importantly our loving Father and I promise you, he will not forget you. He will guide you.

I can't sit here and tell you that I am okay, that I completely moved on, that I'm happy.

Truth is, it is a struggle.

But I am finally starting to see how strong I am, how beautiful I am, how loved I am. I feel a lot more confident in myself and I feel happier with myself. My strength comes from God. I have made Him my anchor - my rock. He will never let me down.

I know with time things will be better, I've been attempting to keep myself busy and I try to be surrounded with company. But of course at times I feel like I can't escape those memories.

Whether it's someone asking about him, a song on the radio, a place we used to go and eat, or a tv show that was "our thing," they are all constant reminders and it is just hard.

It's hard to get my mind to be silent. I wish I had those men in black memory erasers at time honestly.

But I remind myself how strong I am & when I don't see it God, my family, and friends are constantly showing me how amazing I am.

Allow yourself time to heal and do so in a healthy manner and it will be worth it.

I'm thinking about starting a series about these topics. Not just because it helps to write about it, but if I can help ANYONE from my experiences, it would make me so happy.

We are beautiful, strong, and powerful warriors. And remember you are never alone.

Designing and Updates

I have been quite the busy bee designing this jewelry store.

I had my first critique last week and my professor basically gives us an opportunity to fix it for finals.

I mostly used Revit, but my professor loves hand renderings so I did a couple to get some brownie points.

School is quickly coming to a wrap, I have spring break starting this Friday and then practically I am done by the end of April.

________________________________________________________

It's been difficult lately to have any motivation to do anything. I'm currently getting out of a six year relationship. The first few days felt as if my complete world came crumbling down. These past couple of days I have finally gained some new found perspective and I am starting to feel stronger and happier. It's always tough, but I have also fallen deeply in love with my faith.

I want to thank all my friends and family for truly being there for me and for all the patience they have shown me during this time.

Things I'm Looking Forward To

I have my first official career day tomorrow where I will meet with professionals in my field and they will conduct mock interviews and look over portfolios.

I am currently trying to get everything ready for tomorrow, working on my resume right now actually. I already have a cute professional outfit; I was able to score some deals at the Ann Taylor outlet (retail therapy always helps)

Today I also schedule for the fall semester and I am taking my first senior class!

Life moves with or without us, even when you're going through hard times. Remember, how you overcome those difficult moments is up to you.

You can either let it sink you or you can let it strengthen you.

Happy Holy Week Everyone!

First Material Board and Watercolors

It's been a while from my last post, I just felt bombarded with projects, assignments, and exams all due either on the same day or back to back.

The project I completed on Monday was my first ever material board.

I had a lot of fun with this one as you can see.

The Assignment: Pick a clue character that wants to redesign a room in the mansion.

There's a lot more to it but that is the main component. I chose Professor Plum redoing his library with a GoT theme.

I looked at pictures from the set for inspiration mainly focusing on the Red Keep castle in Kings Landing. (Since that is where the Iron Throne lies)

I used ivories, beiges, and gold detailing to portray a sophisticated look. For the flooring I used a natural cut travertine stone and marble finishes for furniture.

I also added a wall with an arch door opening to separate his reading space from his tv.

For my very first material board I'm quite satisfied with how it turned out, sure there are things I would change, but that's the process of learning.

This week we also have a workshop dealing with watercolors. She is showing us different techniques and tips.  The above exercise deals with cool, warm, and neutral colors and a layering technique.

Looking forward to learn some more!
I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week.

Healthy, Easy, & Quick Breakfast Recipe

If any of you are like me, you love to hit that snooze button every morning.

"I swear I'll get up after this snooze alarm"

But really, I know myself and I will probably end up getting up when I only have 10 minutes to get ready.

It really sucks having to rush in the morning and it's a bad habit I should break, but in the meantime I am on the look out for easy and quick hairstyles, makeup, and of course breakfast to make my mornings a little less hectic.

Leaving practically no time to prepare breakfast, I need something I can just grab and eat in class. That is why I am in love with making Overnight Oats.

I know this was a pretty big fad over the internet a while back, but I thought I'd bring it back since surprisingly not many people know about it.

It's perfect for anyone who rather stay those extra minutes in bed rather than in the kitchen.

And bonus: It's packed with a lot of protein to keep you full and happy til lunch!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup of vanilla soy milk (any type of milk you prefer)
  • 1/3 cup of vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1/2 tbsp of chia seeds (sometimes I add a little more)
  • 1 banana (optional)
  • 3 strawberries (optional)
  • raw sliced almonds (optional)

Process:

Add your oatmeal in a container. I prefer a little mason jar.

Secondly add your milk!

Then your greek yogurt

Next are the chia seeds.

Lastly you want to mix everything up! I sliced a banana and a couple of strawberries to give it more flavor. Plus I love fruit in the mornings. I also added raw sliced almonds for that extra protein as well as some crunch.

Once everything is nicely mixed, just seal it and put it in the fridge over night.

And you're done!

In the morning you should get something that looks like this

Have fun coming up with different combinations! Strawberry Banana Almond is my favorite at the moment.

Happy eating!
